| KINARM Enhances University of Calgary Stroke Research | Jun 2, 2010 |
BKIN's robotic technology for assessing the effects of stroke creates buzz in Alberta Dr. Sean Dukelow, an assistant professor at University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine and a member of the faculty's Hotchkiss Brain Institute, is using BKIN's KINARM robot at Foothills Medical Centre to quantify a stroke's effect on patients' sensory and motor skills. As recently profiled by Alberta Health Services ("Made to Measure"), the robotic system, invented by Dr. Stephen Scott of Queen's University, shows great promise in the identification of deficits that are sometimes difficult to pick up on a standard clinical exam, but have an impact on day-to-day function. In the next phase of his research, Dr. Dukelow will begin developing novel approaches towards helping patients recover from the effects of their stroke. |
